On April 20, the Russian Centre of FSS hosted a talk delivered by Professor Oscar Sanchez-Sibony via Zoom from Hong Kong. The talk, entitled “Understanding Marxism through Science Fiction”, was the third in a lecture series presented by the Russian Center for the UM community this semester.

Professor Oscar Sanchez-Sibony is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Hong Kong. Prior to Hong Kong, he taught in the history department at the University of Macau for several years. Professor Sanchez teaches courses on Russia, the Soviet Union, the Cold War, and global capitalism at the University of Kong Kong. His recent publications include a book entitled “Red Globalization: the Political Economy of the Soviet Cold War from Stalin to Khrushchev”. His talk presented a​ new perspective of understanding Marxism.

Professor Sanchez spoke to a largely-filled room of students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, as well as faculty members for some 40 minutes and then answered another 40 minutes of questions. The audience enjoyed his talk and found it very interesting.
