Professor Zhao Xinshu, the Chair Professor from Department of Communication at UM as well as the Chair Professor of Journalism at Fudan University, was the keynote speaker on the 2nd Computational Social Sciences Workshop.
In a two-hour speech, Professor Zhao introduced the concept of homophone effect of online public opinion, and pointed out that “choice” is the most common characteristic of communication behavior, whether it is sending, receiving, forwarding, etc., there is a choice. Professor Zhao explored the selection spiral and content coordination phenomenon in the communication process and concluded that with the support of big data analysis, some classic questions of communication, can be answered and upgraded from a new theoretical perspective.
This workshop attracted many teachers and students from different departments. They actively participated and raised their own questions and opinions during the Q&A section.
