UM has launched several schemes under the UM Talent Programmes in recent years to attract a group of young scholars joining UM. Prof. Yubo Tao, assistant professor at the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, UM, is one of the outstanding scholars. He joined UM in 2022 and focuses on research in the fields of econometric theory, financial econometrics, and empirical asset pricing. His research project “Machine-Learning-Based Latent Factor Models and Their Applications in Financial Markets” submitted through UM and received grants from the Young Scientists Fund by the 2023 National Natural Science Foundation of China. This project aims to employ the latest machine learning algorithms, in conjunction with (conditional) latent factor models, to conduct modeling, and econometric research on financial panel data.
