IDEAS/RePEc, a world-renowned economics research database, recently released the latest ranking of global economics research institutions. As of December 2023, the Department of Economics of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS-DECO) of the University of Macau ranks first, third and fifth in Asia respectively in the three fields of intellectual property rights, economic growth and innovation.

PePEc is the world’s largest database of articles by economics research institutions and scientific researchers, while IDEAS uses the RePEc database to rank the research results of institutions and individual authors in different fields of economics.

The faculty members from the FSS-DECO obtained PhD degrees from internationally renowned universities, such as the University of Michigan, University of Toronto, and Yale University. They actively engage in research with particular focus on policy-relevant areas and have published in leading international journals, such as the European Economic Review, Games and Economic Behavior, International Economic Review, Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Management Science, Review of Economic Dynamics and Theoretical Economics. The aspiration of the department is to become one of the top institutions in economics in the Greater China region.
