The Department of Government and Public Administration (DGPA) of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Macau (UM) recently held an online sharing session titled “Journey to Graduate School”, inviting outstanding alumni and current students from various fields to share their experiences in pursuing further studies. Four alumni who were admitted to internationally renowned universities—including the University of Chicago, Nanyang Technological University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), and the University of Lisbon—shared diverse and inspiring insights from disciplines such as international relations, public affairs, and technology policy, offering valuable perspectives to undergraduate students.
Yuan Zhuang, a 2023 graduate, highlighted the enduring value of transferable skills for social science graduates in professional contexts. Yupin Zhou, who graduated in 2024, explained the importance of school selection, academic positioning, and career planning. Recent graduate Boyang Du reviewed his application process for further studies in Hong Kong and Singapore, focusing on preparation materials and timelines. Sihui Li shared her experiences adapting to exchange programmes and life abroad, and how she overcame related challenges.
Additionally, two current students, Luda Cheng and Shuyang Chen, who are about to embark on exchange programmes at Boston College in the U.S. and Maastricht University in the Netherlands, shared their valuable experiences in course planning, exchange studies, and participation in the Honours College of UM. They encouraged fellow students to plan and explore early.
The entire sharing session not only provided practical advice but also inspired students to view further studies and career development from a long-term perspective, fostering international outlooks and cross-cultural competitiveness. DGPA will continue to support students in their academic pursuits and career development, fulfilling its mission of bridging academic learning and practical application.
